Every year humankind passes a point at which we start living unsustainably, when people’s demands surpassed Earth’s ability to supply resources and soak up waste. The first day was 19 December 1987, this year it was the 9 October. That’s right a full two months earlier then in 1987. Since 1987 we’ve seen the day fall earlier and earlier, as we continue to ramp up our consumption and production. Global Footprint Network has a scary graph of the problem. It’s time to work out your footprint and work to reducing it. We used one year’s worth of resources in just 282 days - this has to change!
