The New York Times has a great article about the rise of industrial food, feedlots and food regulation. Good point made that rather then return to old small scale farms that seemed safer, modern farms offer technological fixes to problems. For instace, when feces were found in beef patties rather then clean up the factories they started irradiating the beef - sterilising manure for us to eat rather then removing it entirely. Of course it’s all American, but it’s slowly happening over here too. See the pork industry for example.
