If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed or to email alerts. Thanks for visiting!

The Human Rights Arts and Film Festival has begun! There are some outstanding films on offer so check out their website and book your tickets before they sell out.

Some films that I’m especially interested in:

The Devil Came on Horseback

A movie about a military observer who went to the Darfur with a camera, pen and paper and was profoundly moved by what he saw.
He is now on a mission to raise awareness about what is happening in Darfur and this movie follows his journey into the “depths of the violence and horror of the Darfur region”.

It’s is being shown Friday 30th November - if tickets sell out you can always buy the DVD from their website.

Iraq for Sale

This is a documentary about the corporations making money out of the Iraq war. It shows how private contractors like Halliburton are making money by cutting corners and exposes the human cost of the out-sourcing of government services.

The film is being shown Friday 30th November - the DVD is also also available from their website.

The Big Sellout

The Big Sellout looks at the negative impacts of globalization on a range of levels - from a British train driver, to a South African activist, to the citizens of Bolivia. It demonstrates the impact and consequences of globalization with humour and compassion.

It’s been screened Sunday 2nd December.

    Hi HRAFF,

I noticed that last year you showed ‘the big sellout’. I was watching in Montreal at about the same time. It is a magnificent film but hard to get hold of. Can you tell me if it is available for rental or purchase from anyway in Melbourne?

I am very excited about this years line up.

    Cheers,

    Alicia

  2. Alice: sorry this isn’t the blog for HRAFF, you should check out their website and e-mail them there.
